The Roosevelt Aquatic Center will remain closed temporarily due to COVID-19 exposure among the staff. However, members of the general public are not considered to be at risk.
On the evening of Tuesday, July 21, administrators at the Roosevelt Aquatic Center were made aware of a positive case of COVID-19 among the staff. The facility was immediately closed to the public and TriCounty Health Department was contacted to initiate an investigation.
Through that process, the health department determined that multiple staff members were exposed to the virus. Those staff members have now been quarantined until their health status is known. No other positive cases among staff have been identified at this time.
TriCounty Health Department also determined that the general public is not considered to be at risk. However, they encourage anyone who attended the Roosevelt Aquatic Center between July 16-17 to monitor their own health and take additional precautions.
TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis stated that in addition to normal measures such as wearing a mask in public and practicing good hand hygiene, individuals who attended the aquatic center on those dates should also practice increased social distancing, watch for symptoms, and avoid contact with high-risk individuals for a minimum of 14 days from the day they were at the pool.
“We are not recommending that individuals who were at the aquatic center be tested unless symptoms develop,” Mathis said.
During this period of closure, the Roosevelt Aquatic Center will be deep cleaned and disinfected. It is important to note that the facility is not considered to be a health risk. However, due to staff shortages, normal operations are not able to resume at this time. The facility will reopen when employees are cleared to return to work.
